- The thing that I found most interesting was the fact that Lee Israel knew she was doing wrong but continued to not only do it, but to also do it at a more extreme level.
- When Lee said that she did some of her best writing when in the forgeries I was not very surprised. She was using her own voice and she was really into it. Lee deep down loved it and she really wanted to keep doing it, not only to pay here bills but also because she found a new motive to write. This helped and damaged her career. It damaged her career for obvious reasons that it was illegal. The was it helped her career was that she started to fall in love with the process of writing again. She had new motives to write for and it sparked a part of her brain she had not seen in a while.
- When she wrote that letter, I think she was feeling guilty and it was her way of letting that guilt go. She used that as the title for the memoir and movie because it just fit. She felt those words had deep meaning to her story and they meant a lot to her based on what she had done.
- Lee Israel was having great struggles trying to focus in and put good work into something of her own. I think that she needed something to help the spark for her to begin writing about things that she was passionate about. She could have used these strategies of finding things that give you that spark to her own writing and maybe wrote about the letters and really break them down and write about the true meaning of the letters.
- One lesson learned from the story is that people are willing to do anything to make sure they have shelter and their family/pets are in good health. Another lesson I learned is that everyone is a good writer, they just need that one thing to help them get that spark and be able to love what they are writing about. One question I have is what happened to Jack Hock and how did this story getting out affect his legacy?
